![]() I know that a lot of folks will not agree because I know how popular this game is, but wow I am just so surprised how much I HATE DOS2 so far. So far, DOS2 feels like a huge step backward. Contrast this with BG1 to BG2, BG2 was universally an acclaimed sequel that just built on the first game and made it so much better. I get the same sensation with DOS2 compared to feels SO different even though it is clearly in the same vein. It was largely intended to continue on in the tradition of Baldurs Gate, but it could never quite "feel" the same way. This all reminds me of when Bioware released Neverwinter Nights. What was the purpose of moving the game interface from the little orbs around the map in the upper right corner in DOS1 to the bottom left corner? Why? Why add a extra click into the game? Just like my beef on not being able to right click on the character to bring up in the character page.why take *away* convenience features from the game. Inventory sorting: in DOS1 you use the drop-down and select how you want the inventory sorted and it just automatically does it, in DOS 2, you have to select how you want it sorted and then press this ridiculous check mark below it to confirm. Why on earth would they assign the absurd hotkey of "L" for the Journal? Like I instinctively press J.you know.for the Journal and nothing happens. Why take that away? I HATE the journal changes in this game and just do not understand how it is an improvement. It was just brilliant in DOS2 where the quests were arranged by most recently updated. The journal? What in the name of god did they do to the journal? I literally do not understand this thing. It just feels like the battles made even more of a pain in the ass that they were originally by now adding in these height differentials. Distancing - why do I feel like I am literally spending 50% of the *total* AP allocated in fights just moving my characters into position to actually be able to attack? Half the time this is to get them up to the height in these ridiculous multi-height enemy placements. It just sits up there pointlessly taking turns doing nothing, then the battle with the main characters ends and you have to go up this ladder and kill the ? You go to this absurd fight and there is a dog up on a platform above a ladder. The absurdity of letting enemies be at different heights - take for instance the boat fight at Fort Joy in the NE part of the map. Removed the ability to right click on the character portrait to bring up the character and inventory screen? Why? Why would they *remove* a functionality the game previously had? Like who benefits from that? Here are a few things that are just driving my totally nuts and confusing me as to how people like this game better than DOS1: It felt totally different even though the core interface was similar. Right away I just did not feel at home with this game. ![]() The use of humor, the character development and the graphics were all really impressive. While there were certain elements of the game that I found frustrating, on the whole it was really quite impressive. Anyway the virus came and I cant go away on holidays basically so I picked up a copy of DOS1, deciding to move on from my beloved BG and POE series. 3 years ago I got sick at Christmas and had been hearing a ton of about Pillars of Eternity (POE), so I picked up a copy and just absolutely loved it. I played these games religiously in my late teens and early 20's. It seems that near universally the consensus is that DOS2 is better than DOS1īy way of background I came across these games via the virus and my past history playing the Baldurs Gate (BG) series, which is still my favorite set of games. And even further surprised at how many people seem to love DOS2 over DOS1. So far I am totally floored by all the negative changes from DOS 1 to DOS 2.
